What is a Vedic Birth Chart?

A Vedic Birth Chart, or Janma Kundli, is a map of the universe at the exact time and place of your birth. Unlike celestial snapshots used in other systems, Vedic Astrology (Jyotish) uses the Sidereal Zodiac, which aligns with the actual constellations in the sky.

This precise mapping allows for deep analysis of your karma, life path, and destiny (Dharma). Your chart reveals the planetary influences that shape your personality, relationships, career, and spiritual growth.

Sidereal vs. Tropical Zodiac

Most Western astrology uses the Tropical Zodiac, which is based on the seasons. Vedic Astrology uses the Sidereal Zodiac (Nirayana), which adjusts for the precession of the equinoxes.

This difference, known as the Ayanamsa, is currently about 24 degrees. This is why your Sun sign might be different in Vedic Astrology—it reflects the actual star constellation the Sun was in, rather than a symbolic seasonal position.

How to Read Your Chart

The Ascendant (Lagna)

The sign rising on the eastern horizon. It represents your physical body, self-image, and outer personality.

The Moon Sign (Rashi)

Governs your mind, emotions, and perception. In Vedic Astrology, the Moon sign is often more significant than the Sun sign.

The Houses (Bhavas)

12 divisions of the sky representing different areas of life, from career and wealth to relationships and spirituality.
